While luxury stay and star property Royal Tulip at Kufri (Himachal Pradesh) decks up for holiday season, Kartikya an exclusive conversation with Mr. Vimal SIngh, MD, Golden Tulip Hotels and Resorts ( South Asia).

Royal Tulip Kufri is an international five-star luxury hotel located in the picturesque Himalayas. The hotel features 58 well sized luxurious rooms and suites, and each room offers a panoramic view of the beautiful Kufri valley. Each room at Royal Tulip Kufri is equipped with state-of-the-art amenities, a four fixture bathroom, a flexible workstation, plush beds, LED television, electronic safe, high-speed internet and luxe amenities to ensure a delightful stay for the guests.

The interiors of the rooms are tastefully done with vibrant colour furniture, carpeted wooden floors, and beautiful paintings. Guests can choose from myriad dining options that include Cafe Promenade, an all-day dining, multi-cuisine restaurant with a special menu for kids. Peak, a rooftop restaurant that offers a delectable barbeque with the breathtaking view of the Himalayan mountains. The Cedar-  lounge bar, a perfect place to unwind and relax with friends and family over lip-smacking drinks.

The hotel houses an impressive and expansive Club Kufri to engage the guests with various fun activities such as – billiards, X box, Air hockey and other fun games. The hotel houses large and spacious halls that can accommodate over 800 guests making the hotel an ideal venue for destination weddings, social functions, corporate off-sites, and gatherings.

Guests can enjoy the expansive view of the Kufri valley from the guest-rooms and restaurants, relax in the heated indoor swimming pool and rejuvenate in the tranquillity of the Sammaya spa or take a leisurely walk through the fragrant cedar forest.

My travel began with the train journey in the Shatabdi Express from New Delhi to Chandigarh, and trust me; it was no less than bliss to get rid of the rising mercury. After completing the 5 hours train journey, I was all set for the scenic road drive to Kufri. While I was lost in the beauty of nature, the sudden break made me realize that I was in the hotel premises.

The Royal Tulip, Kufri is ideal for couples and families. Some travel here just for the thrill in the hills, while for others it is a romantic getaway filled with adventure sports, nature walk and snow sports. Keen swimmers enjoy the opportunity to dive during the winters in the only solar heated pool of the city.

It is a perfect spot for weddings in the sun or snow too. With easy access from Shimla, The Royal Tulip makes a good two-centre option. A drive from Chandigarh or Kalka brings guests directly to the hotel entrance in style or one can also enjoy the fun ride with toy train to Shimla that takes you through endless tunnels and beauty of the hills in about 4 hours.

My suite overlooked the valley and was a bright and airy one with French windows. In this luxury property, the suites lead directly onto the lagoon pool. Here, the unfussy earthy tone décor is neutral and stylish, allowing the natural colours of the surroundings to speak for themselves. The shower room features cool marble and an exhilarating shower, with in-house procured toiletries. The room also features basic amenities in form of coffee maker, LED television, and telephone.

The other floors have breathtaking views and also offer a library, a gym, a lounge bar, games and activity section, billiards table and much more. If you are a food lover, then the restaurants have some delicious traditional Himachali dishes that are definitely worth a try. A must-try would include Arbi ka Palda, Chane ka Madra and Pahadi Palak Meat with steamed rice. And yes, here the traditional cuisine is called as ‘Himachali Dham’.

During my stay, my favourite spot was the library, as space offered a calmness where I could read ‘Playing It My Way: Sachin Tendulkar’ gazing out to the hills. Even the rooftop offered a peaceful space where I could sit for hours and experience the cool breeze over a cup of hot coffee.

The hotel is a short walk to the amusement park, where kids can enjoy to the fullest. Leopards and bears can be seen if you plan to visit the zoo which is 10 minutes away from the hotel.  If you plan to visit Shimla, your visit is complete without a walk through the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, only if you wish to be back in time and feel the castle of Lord Mountbatten, The Shimla Treaty and the monochrome pictures of the ministers.

Every good thing comes to an end. For this one, I would like to thank Mr Randhir Sharma for giving me the insights of the tourism in Shimla and Kufri and making my stay comfy. Mr Bhuvnesh Sharma, for ensuring I had a safe trip up to the hills. And special thanks to Mr Akul Gupta for playing the role of perfect guide, who also introduced me to the best Himachali Dham ever.
